When I started Stitching for a Cure over 2 years ago, it was in an effort to raise money and awareness for American Cancer Society Relay For Life.
It was extremely successful, but very time consuming. We accomplished more than I ever dreamed of.
But for some time I have felt the need to step back and perhaps focus on some other cause. It has been a struggle. I have felt torn.
Things became very clear this past week. Many of you have seen my posts on both my blog, this one and Princess Pattern Collector about my grandchildren.
Both the boys visited me last weekend and I knew something was wrong with my youngest, Craig. He was drinking a lot and having to go to the bathroom a lot. He turned 7 while he was visiting and had long grown out of wetting the bed. But while here, he did.
My daughter told me these symptoms had just started a few days before she visited and that she thought he possibly had a bladder infection. But the discussion soon turned to diabetes.
As soon as they returned home, she called the pediatric clinic. We are glad she did. Craig was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes. He was hospitalized until yesterday. He is still having difficulty with spiking blood sugars but is doing well.
Craig is handling everything wonderfully. But as a grandmother, I worry about his long term health.
So now my focus, at least for now, has turned to helping raise awareness and funds for Juvenile Diabetes. I am not sure how my stitching and how this blog are going to play into everything, but I am convinced God will show me a plan.
Please follow me as I start on this path. Stitching for a cure. Hmm... Seems like there is more than one meaning for that phrase.
I love all of you. Thank you for your support!

I'm so glad your daughter called the clinic and your grandson was diagnosed. A work collegue of my DHs died last year through diabetes, no-one even knew he had it. Although he was obviously older than your grandson many people don't realise it can be a killer disease. Take care x
Glad to hear your grandson is doing better, diabetes is no laughing matter, have to deal with that a lot with my husbands family and see what it can do.
Glad he's doing better! Diabetes is a hard one to deal with for anyone, especially a child. Hugs to your grandson.
SO many people wouldn't have known what to do and often blow off problems thinking it will pass with time. Glad you got a quick diagnosis and can now focus on helping him. Looking forward to seeing what you need me to do to help you with this new adventure. Best of luck to the little guy!
Lucky boy for being diagnosed early and doing better already. He is in my thoughts and prayers. And I'm with you on the change!
So glad they caught it early! Diabetes can be a life changing experience for the whole family as everyone will learn to eat differently. Hopefully it can be under control with a diet change but this can be hard for such a young person. My prayers are with you and your family!
Glad you caught it in time. I'm sure you will do just fine promoting Stitching for a Cure for JD.
So glad that your daughter found out what is going on with your grandson.
I can understand your time for a change.
(((HUGS)))
I'm with you all the way!!
Sorry to hear about the diagnosis.
My little brother has Juvenille Diabetes as well, he was diagnosed when he was 5. He's now a thriving 25 year old. But it can be tough work. Remember to be strong and just do what you can do. *hugs*
Glad your DD found out what was ailing your DGS. Good luck with your new direction!
Glad your daughter took him to the doctor so quickly. I just went to the American Diabetes Association page and found: School Walk for Diabetes is an educational school fundraising program that promotes healthy living, school spirit and community involvement. Wouldn't that be a good idea for your grandson's school? Are you planning on doing a walk in your area and perhaps doing something along the same lines of what you did with the Stitching for a Cure ornaments etc??
Glad the diabetes has been caught early enough. Once he learns how to control things he should be able to lead a fully functioning, active, life.
Just make sure his school system is sympathetic.
So glad you all caught onto your grandson's diabetes and was able to get a diagnosis quickly. Hopefully you will be able to control this disease with diet, exercise and minimal or no medications. Giant hugs to all of you as you begin another chapter in your journey and I'll be cheering for you all!
I am glad to hear that the diabetes was diagnosed early but sad that he will now have to deal with this the rest of his life.
